I am a web developer, co-founder, and executive director at Pwani Teknowgalz; a non-profit organization in Mombasa Kenya working to bridge the gender gap in technology. I am committed to leaving no girl behind in pursuing a career in technology. I have published a book titled “She is a Techie” to encourage girls and women to embrace technology; a field where women are underrepresented.
My passion is to inspire more girls to venture into STEM careers through various projects such as the Technovation Challenge - a global challenge that encourages girls from all over the world to solve community problems by creating dedicated mobile applications. Moreover, I am actively involved in STEM projects in Mombasa, such as 'Mombasa Girls in STEM and STEM CAFE KENYA.
Technovation is a program that challenges girls in high school to develop mobile applications to address community problems. Our team developed a mobile application to address first aid challenges at Home.
Joining the Technical University of Mombasa to pursue Technology brought in a new revelation that puzzled me. The representation of girls in a technology course was questionable, and I was moved that there existed an urgent course of action and I felt that something really needed to be done.
The social issue is of ensuring that members of society have a home in which to live, whether this is a house or some other kind of dwelling. Many governments have one or more housing authorities, sometimes also called a housing ministry or department.
I participated in women in technology creating impact interview on local television KUTV. During the interview, I shared my journey and passion for mentoring girls and young women to pursue a technology career.
I was invited to interview on a film project that aims at understanding the challenges and opportunities for women and girls to partake in ICT education and employment. The film portrayed inspiring women in the field of ICT to share their stories, successes and the challenges they faced in short videos. The film sequences will be featured on a G20 online platform and various high-level events.
Today I joined Technology innovators in Kenya on NTV Kenya on a panel to discuss about technological innovations during Covid-19 and work I am involved at Pwani Teknowgalz of equipping young women with employable skills in technology supported by our partners Swahilipot Hub.
